Meet Our Board

Executive Director Scot Turner

Scot Turner is the Founder, Chairman, and Executive Director of Eternal Vigilance Inc (EVA) , a 501(c)4 nonprofit with the mission to advocate for policies which maximize the American Promise of Liberty and Justice for all. The organization is made up of former state legislators, academics, and activists.

After a distinguished career in the technology sector where he led large, national teams of engineers, he ran for public office for the first time in 2012. He represented the 21st House District in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2013 until 2021. While serving in the House, Scot focused on Civil Asset Forfeiture, elections reform, occupational license reform, agriculture, and the intersection of technology and public policy.

While in the House he served on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Governmental Affairs, Human Relations & Aging, Science and Technology, Small Business Development, Special Rules, and the State Planning & Community Affairs committees.


Buzz Brockway

Buzz serves at GCO’s Vice President of Public Policy. For the past eight years, Buzz Brockway has served in the Georgia House of Representatives serving on committees such as Appropriations, Education, Insurance, and Governmental Affairs. During his time in the Legislature, he worked on legislation to fight human trafficking, reform election law, protect student data privacy, and provide additional funding for charter schools.

Buzz graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1990 with a Bachelors of Science in Management Science and a certificate in Economics. He worked as an operations manager in the plastics manufacturing industry for over 20 years and, while in the Legislature, ran a small business.

In 1993, he married Christa and they have 3 daughters, Elizabeth Hope, Grace Kathryn and Emily Joy. They attend Victory @ Hamilton Mill Church in Buford where Buzz and Christa lead a Married Life small group. He currently serves as Chairman of the State Charter School Commission of Georgia, which authorizes and oversees public charter schools.


John Pezold

A lifelong Georgia resident, John Pezold owned and operated several restaurants in and around his hometown of Columbus, Georgia where he employed over 1000 people. He still lives in Columbus to this day with his wife, Ashley, and their three children.  

Pezold served three terms in the Georgia House of Representatives (2013-2018)  before retiring to focus on his business.  

While serving in the House, his passion led him to work on election legislation including ballot access reform. 

John holds a BA in Finance from Auburn University and an MBA from Columbus State University. 


Jason Pye

Jason Pye is the director of rule of law initiatives for the Due Process Institute. He spends his time lobbying on federal legislation, forming relationships with congressional offices, and keeping tabs on congressional activity. He has worked on several pieces of legislation that have become law, including the First Step Act and the Fair Chance Act. Prior to joining the Due Process Institute, Jason served as the vice president of legislative affairs for FreedomWorks. 

A Georgia native, Jason splits his time between Washington, DC and Richmond, Virginia. He spends his free time writing and playing music.


Dr. Sheila Hadley Strider

Dr. Strider is a full-time faculty member and Dissertation Chairperson in the Doctor of Business Administration program at Columbia Southern University. Dr.  Strider earned her Doctorate in Business Administration from Walden University and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Troy University.  

Dr. Strider has more than 35 years of corporate experience as a human resource  practitioner. Her industry experience includes manufacturing, distribution, consulting, academia, biotechnology, airline, and hospitality. 

Dr. Strider is a native of New York and has lived and worked in Georgia for more than 30 years. Her  passions are mentoring students and advocating for the marginalized.
